Condicionales mixtas
Perdido entonces, notado hoy.
Los tres tipos básicos suponen que la condición y la consecuencia están en el mismo tiempo. A menudo no lo están: una decisión de entonces se nota hoy, o un rasgo de hoy explica un comportamiento de entonces.
El primer caso une la oración con if del tipo 3 con la principal del tipo 2: If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now. El segundo lo hace al revés: If I were more organised, I would not have missed the deadline.
El español construye esto igual — «si hubiera estudiado medicina, ahora sería médica» — y lo hace sin pensarlo. La única diferencia es que en inglés hay que resistirse a la simetría: cada mitad lleva su propio tiempo, y la mezcla no es una excepción sino lo corriente.

Rasgo presente, consecuencia pasada: were — would have done.
If she were not so shy, she would have spoken up.Si no fuera tan tímida, habría dicho algo.
Cada mitad lleva su propio tiempo; de ahí sale el tipo.
If I had taken that job, I would live in Munich today.Si hubiera aceptado el puesto, hoy viviría en Múnich.

Aquí el error no es mezclar sino evitarlo. Quien se queda por prudencia dentro de un solo tipo dice otra cosa: If I had studied medicine, I would have been a doctor habla de entonces, no de que hoy sea médica.
Cada mitad lleva su propio tiempo.
