Simple Present pasa a Simple Past, Simple Past a Past Perfect, will a would, can a could, may a might.

Lo mismo vale para would, could, should y might.

Con los tiempos cambia todo lo que depende del punto de vista de quien habla: I pasa a he o she, here a there, this a that, today a that day, tomorrow a the next day, yesterday a the day before, ago a before.

Present → Past“I am busy.” → He said he was busy.
Past → Past Perfect“I saw her.” → He said he had seen her.
will → would“I will call.” → He said he would call.
can → could“I can help.” → He said he could help.
sin cambio“I had left.” → He said he had left.

Die Regeln im Einzelnen

“We are ready.” → They said they were ready.Dijeron que estaban listos.

  2. El Past Perfect y los modales would, could, should y might se quedan.

“I would go.” → She said she would go.Dijo que se iría.

“I saw him here yesterday.” → She said she had seen him there the day before.

He said that water boils at 100 degrees.Dijo que el agua hierve a 100 grados.

Die typisch deutsche Falle

Aufgepasst

«Dijo que había venido» ya está en pluscuamperfecto y en inglés es He said he had come, no he had had come. Detrás del Past Perfect no hay nada, y las formas con would, could, should y might tampoco retroceden más.

Falsch:She said she will call me back later that day.
Richtig:She said she would call me back later that day.

Introducción en pasado: todo retrocede un paso.
