Contable o incontable
La distinción de la que dependen casi todas las palabras de cantidad.
Los sustantivos contables se pueden contar y poner en plural: a book, two books. Los incontables no: water, music, information, advice, furniture, luggage, bread, money. Van siempre en singular y nunca con a o an.
La lista no coincide con la española, y ahí está la dificultad. information, advice, furniture, luggage, news, progress, research y knowledge son incontables en inglés — mientras que en español se dice perfectamente «una información», «un consejo», «un mueble».
Quien necesita una unidad usa un rodeo: a piece of information, a piece of advice, an item of furniture, a slice of bread.
