Lo que tiene de especial este verbo

  • Irregular en muchos tiempos: lo más seguro es aprender la tabla entera. → Los verbos irregulares
  • Las tres formas básicas que hay que aprender: have – had – had.
  • Ortografía especial con -ing (se pierde la e muda, se dobla la consonante, -ie pasa a -y): having. → El Present Progressive
  • De la lista de palabras: En la tercera persona has, en el pasado siempre had.

Una trampa típica

Incorrecto She is having two brothers.

Correcto She has two brothers. — She is having a shower.

Este es uno de los pocos sitios donde el español protege en vez de estorbar: nadie dice «estoy sabiendo la respuesta», así que I am knowing no suele salir. El error real está en el otro lado, en have: «tengo hambre» y «me estoy duchando» usan el mismo verbo en español y dos formas distintas en inglés, y el segundo sentido de have —el de la acción— se pierde con facilidad.
