La comparación
Las palabras cortas llevan -er, las largas llevan more.
Los adjetivos de una sílaba y los de dos que acaban en -y comparan con -er y -est: old – older – the oldest, easy – easier – the easiest. Todos los más largos llevan more y the most: interesting – more interesting – the most interesting.
Y ahí está el trabajo, porque el español no tiene sufijo: dice siempre «más». «Más viejo», «más fácil», «más interesante» llevan la misma palabra delante, y el inglés reparte lo mismo entre una terminación y una palabra según cuántas sílabas tenga el adjetivo. Contar sílabas antes de comparar es un gesto que el español nunca pide, y es el que hay que adquirir aquí.
Son irregulares good – better – the best, bad – worse – the worst, far – further/farther – the furthest, little – less – the least, much/many – more – the most.
En la comparación va than. Para la igualdad va as … as: as big as. Y el superlativo lleva siempre the. La comparación doble no existe: more bigger está mal, igual que en español no se dice «más mayor».

Aufgepasst
El español compara con «que», y esa única palabra cubre lo que el inglés reparte en dos. «Más grande que» lleva than; «tan grande como» lleva as … as. Quien traduce «que» por lo primero que se le ocurre escribe bigger as. Y el segundo descuido es contar mal: more easy por easier, porque en español «más fácil» no obliga a mirar cuántas sílabas hay.
