日本語話者がつまずきやすいポイント
注意
日本語の「〜ので、だから」のように理由と結果を重ねて、Because it was raining, so we stayed inとすると、理由を二回言うことになります。もう一つの誤りはbecause＋名詞です。「雨のため」はbecause the rainではなく、because of the rainです。

理由はbecause、as、sinceで表し、そのあとには完全な文が来ます。名詞しか続かないときはbecause of、due to、owing toを使います。because of the rain（雨のせいで）。
結果はsoで表します。It was raining, so we stayed in（雨が降っていたので、家にいた）。目的を表すso thatと混同しないように。I left early so that I would not miss the train（電車に乗り遅れないように早く出た）。
目的は、英語ではたいていシンプルなto不定詞で言います。I left early to catch the train。so thatが必要なのは、主語が変わるときや助動詞が要るときだけです。therefore、thus、consequentlyは書き言葉で使い、接続詞ではなく副詞として文に添えます。It was late; therefore, we left.
日本語では「雨だったので、だから家にいた」のように理由と結果の言葉を重ねることがありますが、英語ではbecauseとsoのどちらか一つです。また、会話の「なぜなら〜だから」の感覚で、書き言葉でBecause it was raining.だけを一文にするのも避けましょう。
