Was the Old One Better?

Zwei Freunde streiten, ob die Neuverfilmung ihrer Lieblingsserie besser ist als das Original.

Ein lockeres Streitgespräch. Achte darauf, wie beide Meinungen begründen und einräumen (To be fair …, I will give you that) — und worauf sie sich am Ende einigen.

Noah

So, did you finish the new version? I watched the last part yesterday.

Priya

I did. And to be honest, I do not understand why they made it at all. The old one was wonderful.

Noah

Wonderful? The old one was filmed in about four rooms. You could see that the walls were made of paper.

Priya

That is exactly what I liked. They had no money, so everything depended on the dialogue. The new one looks expensive, but the characters hardly talk to each other.

Noah

To be fair, the people in the old one talked so much that nothing ever happened. My father used to go to sleep in every single part.

Priya

Your father goes to sleep during the news.

Noah

All right, I will give you that. But the new one treated the story with more care. The mother finally has a reason for what she does.

Priya

That is true. In the old one she was simply bad, without any explanation. That was always a weakness.

Noah

So the new one fixed at least one thing.

Priya

One thing. But they also cut the ending with the lighthouse, and that was the best scene in the whole show.

Noah

I know. I was waiting for it during the whole last part, and it never came.

Priya

So we agree: better mother, worse ending.

Noah

Better mother, worse ending. Shall we watch the old ending again on Saturday?
