Work, money and business

Jobs, applications, office, bank, insurance, trade, crafts.

What holds these lists together

Working life in German is written in a register that a course rarely reaches: the passive, the noun built from a verb, and the long compound that says in one word what English needs a clause for. That register is the point of these lists as much as the vocabulary is, which is why the example sentences here are longer than elsewhere on the site.

For example: die Arbeit (work), sich bewerben (to apply), der Schreibtisch (desk), das Konto (account), das Girokonto (current account), einkaufen (to shop, to do the shopping)
