English adjusts a figure for something; German cleans it of it, and the preposition is um with the accusative: die Löhne um die Inflation bereinigen, eine Reihe um den Saisoneffekt bereinigen. The verb is built on rein, clean, so the figure is purged of something rather than corrected for it, and the accusative after um shows on every masculine article: um den Effekt, never um dem. Write bereinigt für and you will be understood, but you will have translated the English, and no statistical office prints it. The moment the thing removed becomes the front half of a compound, the preposition disappears altogether: saisonbereinigt, preisbereinigt, inflationsbereinigt, all written as one word. The verb for the work itself is a different one and it is separable: man rechnet den Einfluss des Wetters heraus, and afterwards it has been herausgerechnet.
