Applying and interviewing

The written application, the interview and the words that decide which one you get.

A German application has a fixed shape and departing from it is noticed. It normally consists of a covering letter, a tabular curriculum vitae, and copies of qualifications and references — the last of these being something English-speaking countries rarely ask for. The written reference from a previous employer, the Arbeitszeugnis, is a legal entitlement in Germany and is expected in the file. This page gives the vocabulary; it makes no claim about what any particular employer wants.
