What holds these lists together

Travel is the area where German is most likely to be read rather than heard — a sign, a ticket machine, a platform announcement, a set of traffic rules — and reading it under time pressure is a different skill from holding a conversation. These lists are written for that: they favour the words that appear on the sign over the words somebody would say about it.

For example: die Stadt (town, city), die Reise (journey, trip), der Fahrgast (passenger), der Bahnsteig (platform), der Gebrauchtwagen (used car), das Reisebüro (travel agency)

Spread across the levels

The category runs across the levels — it is an area, not a difficulty. If you practise it, you can also choose a level at the top of the practice page and then get only the part that sits there.
