Dangerous goods in transport
The words a load of dangerous goods travels with, from the label on the drum to the chock under the wheel.
The verbs a loading bay runs on are all built on one strong verb, and they keep its irregularity wherever it goes. laden changes its vowel in the present, du lädst, er lädt, has lud in the past and geladen as its participle. The inseparable entladen keeps its prefix fixed and drops the ge-: Der Fahrer entlädt die Fässer, er entlud sie gestern, sie sind entladen. zusammenladen sends its first part to the end of the clause and still takes the umlaut: Sprengstoff lädt man grundsätzlich nicht mit anderem Gefahrgut zusammen, and afterwards it has been zusammengeladen. A learner who writes ladet or ladete for loading is regularising a verb that German never regularised in this sense. The noun, by contrast, keeps the plain vowel of the infinitive: die Ladung, never an umlaut.
