Station announcements are the hardest listening a learner meets early on: fast, formulaic and often distorted. They are also predictable, which makes them learnable. Almost every one has the same shape — the train, where it is going, which platform, and then the problem: Der ICE nach Hamburg, Abfahrt 14:12, heute circa zehn Minuten später. Knowing that shape is worth more than knowing any single word in it.
