Travel and sightseeing in German

Planning, booking and walking round a town — with the words on the signs.

Two German words look like English ones and are not. Das Schloss is a palace or castle — and also a lock, from the same root of something being shut. And der Dom is a cathedral, not a dome; the dome itself is die Kuppel. Both appear on every second signpost in a German old town, so getting them wrong means walking a long way.
