中文母语者最容易踩的坑

中文的“让”有好几个意思：“他让我在外面等”可能是要求，也可能是允许。很多人把它一律译成 let，结果 He let me wait outside 变成了“他允许我在外面等”，意思完全不对。转述要求时要用 tell 或 ask，再加 to：He told me to wait outside。另外，say 不能用于这个结构：He said me to wait 是错的。

转述命令或请求时，不用 that，而用动词不定式：She told me to wait。否定形式是把 not 放在 to 前面：He told us not to worry。
引出转述的动词说明了这是什么性质的话：tell 是指示，ask 是请求，order 是命令，advise 是建议，warn 是警告，remind 是提醒，invite 是邀请。选哪个动词，就决定了一半的意思。
中文常常用一个“让”或“叫”就把这些都概括了：“老师让我们安静”“妈妈叫我早点回家”。英语必须挑一个具体的动词，而且结构永远是：动词＋人＋to＋动词原形。
