Two things make this unavoidable rather than optional. A doctor’s appointment in German asks questions that need precise answers — where it hurts, since when, how it feels — and the words for that are not the ones a course teaches for describing a person. And German medical language keeps a Latin term and a German one side by side almost everywhere, so the same thing has two names and only one of them is on the form.
