One adjective on this list invites an English reader to hear a word that is not there. Strahlensensibel seems to contain « sensible », and the two are indeed related: both go back to the Latin sensibilis. But they have gone separate ways. German sensibel means sensitive, quick to react or easily hurt — ein sensibler Mensch is a sensitive person — and it never means level-headed; for that German says vernünftig. So ein strahlensensibler Tumor is a radiosensitive tumour, one that shrinks under a comparatively modest dose, and ein strahlensensibles Organ is one the plan has to protect. The opposite is strahlenresistent. Most of the words below sit between those two poles: a dose that reaches das Zielvolumen, and one that stays under die Toleranzdosis of every Risikoorgan beside it.
