O português põe infinitivo atrás de toda a preposição, e daí saem after to eat, without to say, thanks for come. Acresce o infinitivo pessoal: «obrigado por teres vindo» tem a pessoa dentro do verbo, e o -ing inglês não a pode carregar — fica thanks for coming, e quem veio percebe-se pelo contexto.
