A armadilha típica

Errado Having finished the meeting, the taxi was already waiting.

Certo Having finished the meeting, we found the taxi already waiting.

O mesmo particípio solto das relativas reduzidas, aqui mais frequente porque a construção vem à frente e o sujeito da principal ainda não está escrito. Escreve primeiro a principal e verifica depois se o sujeito dela pode sustentar o particípio. E não procures um gerúndio: a peça portuguesa correspondente é «ao» mais infinitivo.
