El piso de arriba
A move, a neighbour and a heating system that does not work.
Still in the present tense, but with longer sentences and the words from home and moving. Watch the difference between ser and estar: the house is old (ser), the heating is broken (estar). The two verbs stand side by side in almost every paragraph.
El piso está en el tercero y no hay ascensor. La escalera es estrecha y oscura, pero la habitación es luminosa y da a la calle. El alquiler no es barato, aunque para el centro está bien.
Marta llega el sábado con dos amigos y un coche grande. Suben los muebles poco a poco: primero la cama, después la mesa, al final la estantería. A las dos ya están cansados y tienen mucha hambre.
El vecino de abajo sube y llama a la puerta. Se llama Andrés y vive allí desde hace veinte años. Trae dos cervezas y dice que el portal siempre está abierto, que el timbre no funciona y que hay que subir la basura los martes.
Por la tarde Marta pone la lavadora y abre las ventanas. La calefacción está estropeada y el piso está frío, pero el propietario dice que viene el lunes a arreglar la calefacción. Marta no le cree del todo.
Por la noche todo está tranquilo. Marta se sienta en el suelo con un café y mira la habitación vacía. Mañana hay que comprar cortinas, una lámpara y una alfombra. Pero eso es mañana.
