Travel and transport in Spanish

Ticket, platform, room — and what the announcement says.

Every means of transport takes en — en tren, en avión, en coche — and only going on foot is different, a pie. One verb here has no English counterpart at all. Tardar means to take time, and it is the verb of the question a traveller asks most: ¿cuánto se tarda en llegar?, el tren tarda tres horas. English reuses « to take », a verb that already does a dozen other jobs, and then needs a dummy « it » to hold the sentence up.
