La mudanza del primero

A move on a Saturday, with too few hands.

El sábado por la mañana hacía calor y no había nadie en la calle. Carmen y su hermano empezaron a bajar cajas a las nueve. El ascensor no funcionaba desde el jueves.

Subieron y bajaron veinte veces. La escalera era estrecha y una caja se abrió en el segundo. Dentro había platos, y tres se rompieron.

A las once llegó Pablo, un amigo del trabajo. Traía café y dos bolsas de pan. Nadie dijo nada, pero todos pararon diez minutos.

Por la tarde la furgoneta ya estaba llena. Carmen miró el piso vacío y le pareció mucho más grande que antes. Vivió allí seis años.

Cerró la puerta y dejó la llave en el buzón del portero. En el coche su hermano preguntó si estaba triste. Carmen dijo que no, pero miró por la ventana hasta la esquina.
