The contract, the fittings and the things that break.
One verb does both sides of the contract. Alquilar is to rent and to let: alquilo un piso can mean that I am renting one or that I am letting one out, and only the rest of the sentence decides — se lo alquilo a mi hermano is I let it to my brother. The noun keeps the same double life: el alquiler is the monthly rent and also the letting itself, as in un piso de alquiler. English splits the two at the verb; Spanish splits them nowhere, so a flat advertised se alquila is being offered, not wanted.
