Free time and sport in Spanish

Saturday, and the verbs it is made of.

Two verbs here say how an evening went, and Spanish builds them the other way round. Divertirse is literally « to amuse oneself » and aburrirse « to bore oneself », so where English reaches for an adjective — we had fun, I was bored — Spanish has a verb carrying a pronoun that changes with the person: nos divertimos, me aburrí. Drop that pronoun and the meaning turns outward: aburrir on its own is to bore somebody else. One verb in the same list goes the other way and needs no pronoun at all — quedar covers the whole of « to arrange to meet ».
