Everyday words A1
The words that stand between all the others.
These words belong to no subject and turn up in every one of them, which is why learning by topic leaves them out — and they are needed more often than any word in any other list. One pair among them is the difficulty every English speaker meets: por and para, where English says « for » for both. Para looks forward — a purpose, a destination, a recipient, a deadline: es para ti. Por looks back or through — a cause, a route, an exchange, a stretch of time: gracias por todo. Neither is a translation of the other.
