The body and health

With the body Spanish puts an article where English puts a possessive. English marks whose body part it is inside the noun phrase — « I wash my hands », « he has broken his arm » — while Spanish marks it on the verb and then uses the plain article: me lavo las manos, se ha roto el brazo. And pain works the same way round: me duele la cabeza is « the head hurts me », so the verb follows the body part and turns plural in me duelen los pies.
