La primera mañana

A first day at work, from seven o’clock to the first break.

The easiest text in this series. Everything is in the present tense, the sentences are short, and the story is one everybody knows. Notice how often the subject pronoun is missing — the verb ending already says who is meant, and that is exactly how Spanish works at this level.

Lena se levanta a las seis. Está oscuro y el piso está frío. Hace un té y lo bebe en la ventana. La calle está tranquila. Un hombre anda con su perro.

Hoy Lena empieza su trabajo nuevo. El abrigo está en la puerta. Come pan con queso.

Yo soy Bo. Esta es tu mesa. La mesa está cerca de la ventana. Está muy limpia.

A las once Bo trae café. Hablan del tiempo y de la lluvia. Lena está cansada, pero está contenta. La primera mañana termina.
