The Wrong Bus

Un autobus va nella direzione opposta, e un’ora diventa un pomeriggio.

Simple Past con molte indicazioni di luogo e di direzione. Nota le preposizioni di movimento: into, out of, past, back. In italiano la direzione sta spesso nel verbo (entrare, uscire, tornare); in inglese sta accanto.

Malik got into the bus at the market and sat down at the back. He was tired. He did not look out of the window for ten minutes.

When he looked up, the street was wrong. The bus was going past fields, and there were no houses on either side.

He asked the driver, who said that this was the bus to the next town and that it went back at four. It was half past two.

Malik walked into the town, bought bread and cheese and sat by the water for an hour. The sun was warm and the water was very quiet.

On the way home he thought that it had been a good afternoon. He had not planned any of it, and that was the reason.
