इस क्रिया में क्या ख़ास है

कई कालों में अनियमित — सबसे भरोसेमंद तरीक़ा पूरी तालिका सीखना है। → अनियमित क्रियाएँ
याद करने के लिए तीन मूल रूप: understand – understood – understood।
उपसर्ग under + stand: रूप stand की तरह बनते हैं।
अवस्था-बोधक क्रिया: आम तौर पर -ing वाले सतत रूप में नहीं आती; understand कहते हैं। → जिन क्रियाओं का -ing रूप नहीं बनता

मोटे अक्षर और रेखांकित: अंत-प्रत्यय। ◆ उस रूप पर लगा है जो नियम से हटकर बनता है।

आम चूक

ग़लत I am not understanding this sentence.

सही I do not understand this sentence.

यह भारत की अंग्रेज़ी की सबसे जानी-पहचानी ग़लती है, और इसकी जड़ हिन्दी में है। "यह वाक्य मुझे समझ नहीं आ रहा" हिन्दी में सही है, तो I am not understanding this sentence भी सही लगता है। मानक अंग्रेज़ी में यह ग़लत है: I do not understand this sentence। यही बात I am having two brothers पर लागू होती है — सही है I have two brothers। पर ध्यान रहे: She is having a shower सही है, क्योंकि यहाँ have कोई काम है, मालिकाना नहीं।
