El informe que nadie leyó

A text about work nobody sees. Watch the subjunctive after judgement and doubt — era raro que nadie preguntara — and the places where the indicative stands because the sentence states a fact.

El informe tenía cuarenta páginas y le costó ocho semanas. Cuando lo mandó, un viernes por la tarde, se sintió mejor de lo que se había sentido en meses. El lunes no había ninguna respuesta, y eso era normal.

La segunda semana empezó a parecerle raro que nadie preguntara nada. En la reunión de los martes el asunto no salió. Pensó en sacarlo él mismo y no lo hizo, porque le pareció que quedaría mal.

Un mes después, en una conversación de pasillo, su jefe mencionó una decisión que iba justo en contra de lo que el informe recomendaba. Marcos preguntó, con cuidado, si lo había leído. El jefe dijo que sí, que estaba muy bien, y cambió de tema.

Esa respuesta le ocupó varios días. No sabía qué le molestaba más: que probablemente no lo hubiera leído, o que hubiera contestado que sí sin pensar que él se daría cuenta.

Al final decidió que la próxima vez pediría media hora antes de empezar y preguntaría qué decisión había que tomar. No por el informe, sino para no pasar ocho semanas contestando una pregunta que nadie se había hecho.
