Verbs of doing and causing

The verbs this site itself keeps using.

Importar is two verbs sharing one shape. Said of goods it is to import; said of anything else it is to matter, and then it behaves like gustar — the thing that matters is the subject, and the person it matters to is an object pronoun. No importa is it does not matter; no me importa is I do not mind; ¿te importa si abro la ventana? is do you mind if I open the window. English needs three verbs — matter, mind, import — where Spanish turns one of them round.
