What holds these lists together

German housing has a vocabulary of its own that no general course covers, because much of it is legal rather than domestic: die Nebenkosten, die Kaution, die Hausordnung, die Kehrwoche. The lists here run from the first flat viewing through the move to the repair that has to be reported to the landlord, and they are the ones a newcomer needs soonest and finds written down least.

For example: die Wohnung (flat, apartment), die Wohnungssuche (flat hunting), der Abwasch (washing-up), der Wasserhahn (tap), der Putzlappen (cleaning cloth), die Nachbarin (neighbour)
