Flowers and houseplants

Flowers are given often in German-speaking countries and there is a convention worth knowing: the paper comes off before the bunch is handed over, and an even number is avoided. The vocabulary for keeping a plant is mostly verbs — umtopfen, aussäen, keimen — and they are the part a dictionary handles worst, because each one covers a whole small operation rather than a single action.
