Building and renovating

The trades, the materials and the paperwork of having work done on a building.

Having work done on a German building brings a fixed sequence of documents: a quotation, a written order, an inspection at the end — die Abnahme — and a list of anything still wrong. That last step matters, because the statutory warranty period starts running from it. The trades have separate names and a company usually does only one of them, so a renovation means dealing with several firms rather than one.
