Sustantivo (26)

structural steelel acero estructuralSustantivoC2
Structural steel is specified by its yield strength and its toughness.
Above the yield strength the steel deforms and does not come back.
ductilityla ductilidadSustantivoC2
Ductility is what warns before a structure fails.
Notch toughness decides how the steel behaves in the cold.
rolled sectionel perfil laminadoSustantivoC2
A rolled section is cheaper than anything welded from plate.
plate girderla viga armadaSustantivoC2
A plate girder is used where no rolled section is deep enough.
hollow sectionel perfil huecoSustantivoC2
A hollow section resists twisting far better than an open one.
A slender web has to be stiffened against buckling.

stiffenerel rigidizadorSustantivoC2
A stiffener under the load point stops the web from folding.
bucklingel pandeoSustantivoC2
Buckling has nothing to do with strength and everything with slenderness.Una barra larga a compresión falla doblándose y no aplastándose.
lateral torsional bucklingel pandeo lateral por torsiónSustantivoC2
Lateral torsional buckling is prevented by holding the compression flange.La viga se va de lado y gira a la vez, y por eso se arriostra.
slenderness ratiola esbeltezSustantivoC2
The slenderness ratio decides which failure comes first.
A bolted connection is made on site and can be taken apart.
preloaded boltel tornillo pretensadoSustantivoC2
A preloaded bolt carries the load by friction rather than by shear.
butt weldla soldadura a topeSustantivoC2
A full butt weld is as strong as the plate it joins.
The weld throat and not the leg length is what is calculated.
The fatigue class depends on the detail and not on the material.
The stress range matters for fatigue and the mean stress hardly does.
Each load case is combined with the others by a set of factors.
limit stateel estado límiteSustantivoC2
The serviceability limit state is about comfort and not about collapse.
A partial factor sits on the load and another on the resistance.
camberla contraflechaSustantivoC2
The camber is built in so that the finished beam looks straight.
The erection sequence is a calculation and not a matter of habit.
temporary bracingel arriostramiento provisionalSustantivoC2
Temporary bracing carries the frame until the permanent one is in.Muchas estructuras solo son estables cuando están completas.
galvanisingel galvanizadoSustantivoC2
Galvanising protects for decades and warps a thin plate.
fire protection coatingla pintura intumescenteSustantivoC2
A fire protection coating swells and insulates the steel behind it.Con el calor la pintura se hincha y aísla el acero durante un tiempo medido.

Adjetivo (1)

slip resistantresistente al deslizamientoAdjetivoC2
A slip resistant joint needs a prepared and measured contact surface.
