The Train Journey

A night train to visit grandparents, and a conversation with strangers.

Past continuous (जा रहा था) and the habitual past (जाते थे), plus compound verbs such as सो गया and बैठ गए, which add a sense of completion to the action.

पिछली गर्मियों में मैं अपने दादा-दादी से मिलने गाँव जा रहा था। मैंने रात की ट्रेन ली।

ट्रेन शाम सात बजे स्टेशन से चली। मेरे सामने एक बूढ़े पति-पत्नी बैठे थे। वे भी अपने बेटे से मिलने जा रहे थे।

थोड़ी देर बाद उन्होंने मुझसे बात करना शुरू किया। उन्होंने अपने घर से लाया हुआ खाना मुझे भी दिया।

रात को सब अपनी-अपनी सीट पर सो गए। सुबह छह बजे ट्रेन गाँव के पास वाले स्टेशन पर पहुँची।

स्टेशन पर मेरे चाचा जी मेरा इंतज़ार कर रहे थे। मैंने उन दोनों को धन्यवाद कहा और चाचा जी के साथ घर चला गया।
