새 동네
Moving into a new neighbourhood and finding one’s way around it.

지난달에 회사 근처로 이사를 했다. 전에 살던 동네에서는 회사까지 가는 데 한 시간 반이나 걸렸는데, 지금은 걸어서 십오 분이면 된다.
처음 며칠은 모든 것이 낯설었다. 어디에서 장을 봐야 할지, 쓰레기는 언제 내놓아야 하는지도 몰랐다.
그런데 어느 날 아래층에 사시는 할머니를 만났다. 할머니께서는 쓰레기 버리는 날과 싸고 좋은 가게를 친절하게 알려 주셨다.
주말에는 동네를 천천히 걸어 보았다. 골목 안에는 작은 빵집과 오래된 책방이 있었다. 빵집 주인은 내가 새로 이사 온 것을 금방 알아보았다.
아직 친구는 많지 않지만, 이제는 이 동네가 조금씩 내 동네처럼 느껴진다. 회사에 오가는 시간이 줄어서 저녁에 운동을 할 수 있게 된 것도 좋은 점이다.
