Shopping: the first words

Money, paying and the phrases for buying something.

Most shopping in Korean runs on one word, 주세요, “please give me”: name the thing, add the number and say it — 이거 두 개 주세요. Prices are counted in units of ten thousand, 만, not in thousands, so twenty thousand won is 이만 원, “two ten-thousands”. A few of the words here are whole phrases and are learnt as they stand.
