Clothes

What you wear, and the different verbs for putting it on.

English puts on everything; Korean has a verb for each part of the body. Clothes on the body are 입다, shoes and socks 신다, a hat or glasses 쓰다, gloves and rings 끼다, and a tie, a belt or jewellery 하다. Taking any of them off is 벗다. Because these verbs describe the act of putting on, what someone has on is often said in the past: 안경을 썼어요, “she is wearing glasses”.
