Language in use

German for travelling

Stations, hotels, restaurants and the way to the old town: German that helps straight away on the road.

33 sentences · 3 dialogues · 21 words

Why this field

Many people in the German-speaking countries speak good English, but a few sentences in German change the tone at once — at the ticket counter, at reception, in a small restaurant or in a village where English is rarer.

Travelling repeats itself: tickets, platforms, delays, rooms, the bill. Learn the dozen sentences that come up every day and you can get through a journey with very little grammar.
