A Friend’s Birthday
Planning a surprise birthday party in a small flat.
Plans and intentions: ~tsumori, ~you ni, and giving and receiving with ageru and kureru. Notice that Japanese leaves out the subject whenever it is clear who is meant.
来週の金曜日は、リサさんの誕生日です。友達の香織さんと健太さんは、リサさんのためにパーティーをするつもりです。でも、リサさんには言いません。
場所は香織さんのアパートです。部屋は狭いですが、五人ぐらいなら大丈夫です。健太さんはケーキを買って、香織さんは料理を作ることにしました。
プレゼントは何がいいか、二人はたくさん話しました。リサさんは写真を撮るのが好きなので、カメラを入れるかばんを買うことにしました。
金曜日の夜、香織さんはリサさんに「ちょっと手伝ってほしいことがある」と電話しました。リサさんは何も知らないで、アパートに来ました。
ドアを開けると、みんなが「誕生日おめでとう!」と言いました。リサさんはとても驚いて、少し泣きました。その夜、みんなで遅くまで話しました。
