Basic adjectives

Describing things and people: size, price, age, likes and dislikes.

Japanese has two kinds of adjective, and every word in this list belongs to one of them. i-adjectives such as 高(たか)い end in い and change that ending themselves: 高(たか)くない, 高(たか)かった. na-adjectives such as 静(しず)か take な before a noun — 静(しず)かな町(まち) — and leave the changing to です and だ. Two common ones look like the first kind and behave like the second: きれい and 嫌(きら)い end in い and are both na-adjectives.
