Kitchen and tableware

Plates, cups and cutlery, and the dishes you will order at the table.

A Japanese meal brings a few things English has no single word for: おしぼり, the small towel handed out before you eat, and お椀(わん), the bowl that soup is drunk from directly. Much of the rest is borrowed and written in katakana, and becomes easy once it is said aloud — フォーク, スプーン, メニュー. Keep the two kinds of hot apart: 熱(あつ)い for food and drink, 暑(あつ)い for the weather.
