Il primo giorno in palestra

A resolution, a contract and the question of how long it lasts.

A text about something everybody has meant to do at some point. It is also the best place to see reflexive verbs in context: mi alleno, mi sono iscritto, ci vediamo — all of them with essere in the past, without exception.

A gennaio ho deciso di fare sport. Non per la salute soltanto: dopo il lavoro ero sempre stanco e di cattivo umore, e volevo cambiare qualcosa.

La palestra è vicino a casa, in una strada stretta dietro il mercato. Il contratto costa trenta euro al mese. Ho firmato senza leggere tutto, e questo forse è stato un errore.

Il primo giorno mi sono allenato per un’ora. Un ragazzo giovane mi ha spiegato le macchine e ha detto: piano, non troppo la prima volta. Non ho ascoltato.

Il giorno dopo avevo male dappertutto: le gambe, la schiena, le braccia. Ho lavorato tutto il giorno con la faccia di uno che ha la febbre. Un collega ha riso e ha detto: ti capisco.

Adesso ci vado il martedì e il giovedì. Non è molto, ma è sempre. La cosa più difficile non è stata la prima ora: è la sesta settimana, quando fuori piove e nessuno ti aspetta.
