A common trap

Wrong Oggi è molto caldo.

Right Oggi fa molto caldo.

The weather is made in Italian, not been. È caldo says of a thing that it is hot — of the soup, for instance. Of the weather you say fa caldo. It is the same reshuffle as age and hunger: what English builds with to be, Italian often builds with another verb entirely.

Irregular present: fare, andare
