Reading a German forecast, and the warnings that come with it.
A German forecast is dense and formulaic, which makes it learnable: it names a pressure system, then cloud, then precipitation, then wind, then temperature, in that order. Two terms carry more than they look. Das Unwetter is not just bad weather but severe weather that warrants a warning, and schwül means humid and close — not cool, which is what English speakers hear in it.
