Maths and statistics in German
Doing sums out loud in German, and reading a chart in a German newspaper.
Two conventions differ from the English-speaking world and both matter. The decimal separator is a comma and the thousands separator a full stop, so 1.234,5 is one thousand two hundred and thirty-four point five. And a German fraction is read from the top down with the denominator as a neuter noun: drei Viertel, zwei Drittel.
