Keeping a pet
Vets, leads and the dog tax that surprises everybody once.
Two administrative facts belong to this vocabulary. Keeping a dog in Germany means registering it with the municipality and paying die Hundesteuer, an annual local tax that exists for dogs and for almost nothing else. And a dog must be microchipped and, in most states, insured against damage it causes. Cats are subject to none of this.
