İlk iş günü

Burak starts work as an engineer: a new shirt, new colleagues and lunch.

A day in the past tense, with a look ahead: çalışacak, “he will work”. Watch how people are addressed at work: Burak Bey and Ayşe Hanım, the first name with the word for Mr or Mrs after it — not the surname with Mr or Mrs in front, as in English.

Burak geçen ay üniversiteden mezun oldu. Bugün yeni işinin ilk günü. Bir şirkette mühendis olarak çalışacak.

Sabah çok erken kalktı. Yeni gömleğini giydi ve kahvaltı etti. Biraz heyecanlıydı.

Şirketin ofisi şehrin merkezinde. Burak metroyla gitti. Yol yirmi dakika sürdü. Kapıda müdür onu bekliyordu. “Hoş geldiniz, Burak Bey!” dedi. Sonra ona ofisi gösterdi. Burak yeni iş arkadaşlarıyla tanıştı.

Öğle arasında hep birlikte yemeğe çıktılar. Yakın bir lokantada köfte ve pilav yediler. Hesabı Ayşe Hanım ödedi: “Bugün sizin ilk gününüz, ben ısmarlıyorum,” dedi.

Akşam Burak eve döndü. Yorgundu ama mutluydu. Annesini aradı: “İş çok güzel, insanlar çok nazik,” dedi.
