More about this list

For “wear” and “put on” Turkish has one verb: giymek. Glasses, jewellery or a watch, on the other hand, are “attached”: gözlük takmak. Taking off is çıkarmak, literally “to take out” — the same verb you use for taking something out of your pocket. In many Turkish homes you take your shoes off at the door, which is what terlik “slippers” are for. Clothes size is beden, shoe size numara. And “trousers” and “glasses” are singular in Turkish: bir pantolon, bir gözlük.
